The world’s most expensive bed
We spend a staggering one third of our lives in bed. Given how much time we spend tucked up between the sheets, shouldn’t we treat ourselves to the best bed money can buy? We could, but it will cost you over $6 million.
For $6.25 million you could be sleeping in what has been cited as being ‘the most expensive bed in the world’. has been co-designed by the exquisite Italian design company, Hebanon and the British designer Stuart Hughes, famous for transforming average, everyday items into luxury products for the superrich, such as gold-plated iPhones, which sell for almost $40,000.
This remarkably exquisite four poster bed includes a frame that has been handcrafted from ash wood and chestnut, whilst its striking canopy is made from cherry wood and is inlaid with 107 kilograms of 24 carat gold. Diamonds and jewels can even be added to the headboard for an additional luxurious touch. Of course the ‘world’s most expensive bed’ could not be adorned with any old bedding, and to compliment the perfection of the frame and headboard, the Baldacchino comes complete with some simply divine Italian drapes.
Talking about the intricacy of the bed, 39-year-old Stuart Hughes described the bed’s “incredible” detail made it “out of this world”.
“It is the sort of thing only the superrich can afford, billionaires who have everything and are always looking for unique gifts”, said the British designer.
So far, only two Baldacchino Supreme Luxury beds have been made, both taking three months to complete. One has already been bought by an Italian businessman; the other is on sale in the US.
The Baldacchino Supreme Luxury Bed has been recognized by the Guinness Book of Records as being the world’s most expensive bed.
