Sporting events in Barbados

Posted by in Façonnable Inspirations | Comments Off

If cricket tours, golfing holidays and hockey festivals sound appealing, then watching these world-class sporting events on the beautiful sun-kissed islands of the Caribbean sounds even more attractive. Barbados and the Caribbean is a sporting paradise, and with literally hundreds of major first-class sports tournaments to watch, as well as activities, such as golf, rugby, hockey, netball and cricket to participate in, luxury sports enthusiasts are more than spoilt for choice.

Kensington Oval in Barbados is one of the most famous grounds in West Indies cricket and has been hosting visiting cricket teams since 1895. This pristine and highly prestigious ground attracts thousands of Barbadians, other West Indians and visitors from around the globe each year to witness some of the most important international cricket tournaments. Bowlers and batsmen of only the highest calibre, such as Carl Hooper, Brian Lara, Chivnarine Chanderpaul, Cuffey and Dillon, grace the luxury cricket grounds in the Caribbean with their effortless sporting genius.

Although if swinging hockey sticks is more up your street than thrashing a cricket ball, then the Caribbean is also home to some of the most spectacular hockey tournaments in the world, including the world-renowned Banks International Hockey Festival. Surrounded by white sandy beaches, a crystal-clear azure ocean and a tropical climate, it is easy to understand why this week-long hockey festival remains a popular choice for both sexes.

The 2011 Banks Hockey Festival will be held between the 14 August – 20 August and with the exquisite and carnival atmosphere the festival creates, it really is a plush treat for hockey enthusiasts.

Golf is also big business in the Caribbean and consequently Barbados and other islands kissed by the Caribbean sun are home to some of the most impressive, challenging and luxury golf courses in the world. So vast and testing are some of the Caribbean’s golf courses that many require a mandatory caddy! Golf courses are hosted right the way through the year in the Caribbean and attract some of the most exalted and prominent names from the world of golf.

Possibly the most popular golf courses in Barbados are situated in the west coast at the infamous Sandy Lane Golf Club Barbados Resort and Spa. These include:

The Green Monkey

The Country Club

The Old Nine
