SOFA New York 2011 – “The World’s Foremost Fairs of Contemporary Decorative Arts and Design”
From April 14 – 17, 2011 the 14th edition of SOFA New York, the International Sculpture Objects & Functional Art Fair, will be held in New York at the Park Avenue Armory.
This internationally celebrated for its pioneering contemporary art and design four-day event is to be opened in style with an invitation only VIP opening night preview on April 13 from 1700 – 1900 hours.
The opening night will consist of only the most elite and recognizable names in the world of art kick starting one of the most exclusive functional art and sculpture object events on the international stage.
This year there promises to be an increased presence of top Asian artists and British dealers. Many new and exceptional exhibitors will be making their debut at SOFA New York, including Sarah Myerscough Fine Art from London, New York’s Ippodo Gallery, and contemporary Asian specialists Korean Craft and Design Foundation. Several of the world’s leasing art jewellery gallerists will also be present at this year’s fair, including Aaron Faber Gallery, Sienna Gallery, Charon Kransen Arts and Ornamentum.
In recognition of the highest quality three-dimensional masterpieces exhibited at the show, the internationally celebrated author, designer and collector, Jack Lenor Larsen, will be presenting an award new to SOFA New York this year. Two artists will be selected for the LongHouse Prize by Larsen, who will announce the winners at the fair’s Designer Breakfast.
The Designer Breakfast is in its forth consecutive year, and is to be held on Thursday April 14. Moderated by Greg Cerio, editor of the Brant publication “Modern”, and featuring the critically-acclaimed modernist designers Juan Montoya, Amy Lau and Alexander Gorlin, the Designer Breakfast will include a panel discussion, which will focus on the topic, “Contemporary Design Viewpoints: Where do we go from here?”
This year the SOFA New York Lecture Series is to be expanded to three days. On April 14, 15 and 16, a group of highly exalted scholars, curators and artists will be speaking about the contemporary art scene.
