Scottsdale Classic Car Auction 2011
Classic car auctioneers Gooding & Company return for their annual 2011 Scottsdale Auctions in Arizona.
Gooding & Company are celebrated for selling the most valuable car of Scottsdale Auction Week for 3 years in a row and the 2011 edition is set to be no exception. The auction is taking place at Scottsdale Fashion Square Mall at 11am on Friday 21st – Saturday 22nd January 2011. Here are just some of the highlights you can expect to see…
1953 Fiat 8V Supersonic
A spectacularly designed automobile from Italy’s Carrozzeria Ghia during the Jet Age of the 1950s. It is a rare sportscar that embodies the best of the era’s American and Continential design. This edition was the first Supersonic made out of only 12 models, and was regarded as the finest example of the vehicle. It has only been driven a mere 17,000 miles since new, and it has been kept in exceptionally good condition. It still has its original engine, maroon paint and complete interior, and is estimated to sell for between $1.1 million – $1.4 million.
1948 Tucker, No. 1010
This car was believed to have disappeared many years ago but it has recently re-emerged after over 50 years of being tucked away in a private barn. It is in spectacular near-original condition and has only travelled 10,000 miles since new. It is thought that the car raced at Bonneville in the early 1950s achieving and impressive top speed of 134mph. It is expected to bring in around $1 million.
1930 Duesenberg Model J Dual Cowl Phaeton
This vehicle is an outstanding example of the classic American automotive legend. It is one of the best surviving barrel-side Phaetons in existence – one of the few that has managed to retain its original chassis, engine and body. It was previously owned by Jim Hoe, America’s foremost Duesenberg mechanic and restorer during the post WWII era. It is estimated to sell for between $1.2 million – $1.6 million.
1933 Stutz DV-32 Dual Cowl Phaeton
It was the last model ever built by the Stutz Motor Company and has one of the best, high performance chassis of the classic era. It is the only known Dual Cowl Phaeton surviving on a legendary DV-32 chassis. It is also one of the most sporting American classic and is estimated to sell for $500,000 – $650,000.
2005 Saleen S7
This exciting one-of-a-kind performance car was featured in the 2005 movie Iron Man starring Robert Downey Jr. Its high tech design combines with a powerful twin turbo – charged, 1,000 hp, V8 engine to deliver an audacious modern collector car. This California-built super car offers tremendous performance for value and is estimated between $300,000 – $400,000.
Guests may preview the cars on Thursday 20th and Friday 21st January from 9am – 6pm, and Saturday 22nd January from 9am – 11am. An Auction catalog for $80 admits 2 to both the viewing and the auction. General admission to the viewing and auction can be purchased for $30 per person.
