New Polaroid line unveiled at the consumer electronics show

Polaroid has revealed 3 new products from their Grey Label range at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas. These innovative gadgets were demonstrated to spectators by musician Lady Gaga, who was appointed as Polaroid’s creative director in January last year.

The GL20 Camera Glasses, a set of sunglasses that double as a digital camera, are perhaps the most exclusive product in the collection. They have 1.5 inch OLED screens that capture and display images, as well as a video option. Wearers also are able to show images on the outer screen/lenses, allowing them to “tell their story to the world” according to Polaroid. There is a hidden USB key in the earpiece that enables the wearer to transfer images onto a computer, ideal for storing the images and uploading them to the internet. The Camera Glasses will be available to buy later this year and the price is to be announced.

The perfect accompaniment to the glasses is the GL10 Instant Mobile Printer that can print pictures taken with portable devices, such as mobile phones, via Bluetooth. It can also produce up to 40 Polaroid prints in less than a minute. Using ZINK technology, it is able to print with embedded dye-crystal ZINK Zero Ink and ZINK Paper – an advanced composite material with cyan, yellow and magenta dye crystals. The crystals start off clear but are activated and colourised using heat. The printer can also link to a PC using a USB port. It will be available in May 2011 for $149.99.

The new version of the GL30 Instant Digital Camera will be a favourite of the loyal fans of the Polaroid franchise. The printer-enabled device revives the original concept of the Polaroid camera, but is now further advanced within a 20 mega-pixel camera. There is also a swivelling LCD screen that enables you to view the pictures before printing them – something that is bound to excite those that were avid users of the older models. The camera uses the same ZINK Technology to print the pictures and also gives users the option of saving the pictures digitally too. This will also be available later in 2011.
