Marc Quinn Exhibition
Beirut welcomes innovative British artist Marc Quinn in a showcase of his thought-provoking paintings and sculptures between 29th September and 9th October, and Faҫonnable is proud to be a supporter of this ground-breaking exhibition.
He is considered to be one of the UK’s most important artists of our time and is often associated with the YBAs (Young British Artists), a group that has swarmed the art world with unique artistic talents. However, Quinn is the first of this group to branch out and exhibit his work in the Middle East.
Marc is perhaps best known for his painted bronze and gold sculptures of Supermodel, Kate Moss, but he is most notorious for his outlandish ways of displaying his art. He uses various materials from blood to glass to construct his pieces, and the general underlying theme of his work is the distanced relationship that we have with our bodies. It is meant to highlight the conflict between the ‘natural’ and the ‘cultural’ that plaques our contemporary society.
One of Marc’s pioneering artworks showing in Beirut will be his Flower Painting, created from photos of flowers and plants that he has collected in full bloom from around the world. These flowers have been preserved in silicone at sub-zero temperatures so that they remain in the state they were picked in. It is meant to capture the romanticism of stopping time, while the enlargement of the flowers in the images makes a visual impact.
The Marc Quinn exhibition will be held at The Platinum Towers in Beirut, Lebanon from 29th September until 9th October.
