International Polo Tour 2011

Posted by in Façonnable Lifestyle | Comments Off

What could be better than combining champagne, the sun, a fashion show, socializing with other ‘socialites’ and a good old game of polo? If your answer is quite simply ‘nothing’, you will want to start thinking about booking a ticket to Washington DC in September, to witness Costa Rica versus the USA at polo.

Since 1923, international polo has been a diplomatic tradition in Washington DC. Each year a different country challenges the US to be crowned International Polo Champions and to be handed the highly hunted International Polo Cup. This year Costa Rica are the challengers and in September an exciting clash will occur between these two international teams. The event  will see the highest profile figures in the sport, as well as some of the most influential ‘socialites’ in the world, gather to soak up the fine wine, champagne, sun, entertainment and of course some polo.

What promises to be a spectacular convergence of cultures will include a ‘Rockin the Runway’ live fashion show, military exhibitions – promoting polo’s ties with the military, being that it was originally used to train officers to determine their ranks prior to WWII – music shows and bounteous amounts of top-notch food and drinks, celebrated amongst people with a common interest – a yearning to be part of a culturally world-class celebration.

The majority of the action will take place in Washington DC’s stunning DC National Mall, overlooking the Lincoln Memorial and the Washington Monument.  A variety of ticket options are available to purchase. The most popular ticket is usually the day of Polo & Wine, which takes place on the Saturday. Washington DC’s International Polo event is a great family day out, with children of all ages enjoying the many activities and performances. Children under 16 are free when accompanied with an adult with a ticket.
