Iconic James Bond pistol up for auction
The Walther pistol used to promote ‘From Russia With Love’ is up for auction at Christies in London.
Art auctioneers, Christies are expected to fetch up to $32,000 (£20,000) for the gun at their Popular Culture: Film and Entertainment sale on 25th November. Sean Connery modelled as James Bond with the iconic pistol in a photo shoot that was used in the advertising campaign for the 1963 film From Russia With Love. The image was also used in the promotional material for every Bond film up to 1967’s ‘You Only Live Twice’ and still remains as a prominent part of film culture today.
The sale is due to happen a month after another piece of Bond memorabilia was sold in Battersea, London by RM Auctions. The legendary 1964 Aston Martin DB5, driven by Sean Connery in two Bond films was sold to American Businessman, Harry Yeaggy for $4.6 million (£2.6 million) in October 2010.
Christies, who are based in South Kensington, London, are selling press releases and other promotional material From Russia With Love dated 1963. They are estimated to sell for over $1,000 (£700) .
