Scottsdale Classic Car Auction 2011

Classic car auctioneers Gooding & Company return for their annual 2011 Scottsdale Auctions in Arizona.

Gooding & Company are celebrated for selling the most valuable car of Scottsdale Auction Week for 3 years in a row and the 2011 edition is set to be no exception. The auction is taking place at Scottsdale Fashion Square Mall at 11am on Friday 21st – Saturday 22nd January 2011. Here are just some of the highlights you can expect to see…

1953 Fiat 8V Supersonic

A spectacularly designed automobile from Italy’s Carrozzeria Ghia during the Jet Age of the 1950s. It is a rare sportscar that embodies the best of the era’s American and Continential design. This edition was the first Supersonic made out of only 12 models, and was regarded as the finest example of the vehicle. It has only been driven a mere 17,000 miles since new, and it has been kept in exceptionally good condition. It still has its original engine, maroon paint and complete interior, and is estimated to sell for between $1.1 million – $1.4 million.

Iconic James Bond pistol up for auction

The Walther pistol used to promote ‘From Russia With Love’ is up for auction at Christies in London.

Art auctioneers, Christies are expected to fetch up to $32,000 (£20,000) for the gun at their Popular Culture: Film and Entertainment sale on 25th November. Sean Connery modelled as James Bond with the iconic pistol in a photo shoot that was used in the advertising campaign for the 1963 film From Russia With Love. The image was also used in the promotional material for every Bond film up to 1967’s ‘You Only Live Twice’ and still remains as a prominent part of film culture today.

Laura Ashley multi-million euro mansion goes for sale in St Tropez

The luxury estate home belonging to the late British designer Laura Ashley, in the village of La Garde-Freinet near Saint Tropez on the French Riviera, is on the market for 9.9 million euros.

The pre-Napoleonic mansion, known as Le Preverger, is set on a 150 acre plot and was bought by Laura Ashley and her husband as a holiday home in 1982 from the French actress Jeanne Mareau.

Mercedes-Benz overtakes Lexus as US top-selling luxury car

For the last ten years the top-selling luxury car in the United States has been the Lexus. But according to recent statistics compiled by Autodata Corporation, from January through until September this year, Mercedes-Benz sold almost 1,000 more vehicles more than Lexus.

Although according to Autodata, the race to be the United State’s highest selling super car this year is far from in the bag, as Lexus is rapidly gaining on the German automobile manufacturers, and with two months to go before the end of the year, Lexus could well catch up and even take over, knocking Mercedes-Benz of off the top spot.
