Hong Kong Ritz-Carlton to be World’s Tallest Hotel

The date has now been set for the opening of the world’s tallest hotel, Hong Kong’s Ritz-Carlton.

The finishing touches are now being applied to the 118 storey hotel as Hong Kong prepares to open its tallest building in March 2011. It will be occupy floors 102 to 118 within The International Commerce Centre (ICC), which is situated on the Kowloon waterfront. The 484 metre hotel will take the ‘world’s tallest hotel’ title from Dubai’s Rose Tower Hotel which stands at 333 metres and 72  floors.

World’s most expensive whisky sells for $460,000

A 64 year old bottle of Macallan whisky has sold at a New York charity auction for $460,000 – making it the most expensive whisky ever bought in the world.

This rare single malt whisky was contained in a bespoke Lalique crystal decanter and auctioned to mark the birth of Rene Lalique, the founder of the world’s leading crystal artisans. The decanter was designed and hand-crafted by Lalique and was inspired by the beauty of the Macallan’s 150 hectare estate in North-Eastern Scotland. The design is not dissimilar to a traditional ship’s decanter from the 1820s – the decade in which Macallan was founded.

India’s Gold Plus Nano car

It was understandable and somewhat predictable when a Lexus SC430 sports car on display in Taiwan, was decked out with more than 300,000 Swarovski crystals only to become known as the “Jewel of the Lexus”.

The name ‘Tata Motor Nano’ hardly invokes feelings of lavishness and opulence, although the days of dismissing the ‘cheapest car in the world’ as an economical and ‘sensible’ car, are about to be numbered, when its mundane exterior is bejeweled in head to toe gold.

The US Open Polo Championships 2011
