Slouchy minimalism. The season’s new elegance
NICE, France — For Pre-Fall 2012, Façonnable channeled the unfettered, utilitarian elegance of the Legionnaires, better known as the French Foreign Legion.
A military unit filled with foreign nationals, the Legionnaires became famous for their service, bravery and adventurous spirit during the late 1800s and early 1900s. Their uniforms—dusty khakis, clean chinos, and streamlined silhouettes— became just as iconic, immortalized by Ralph Fiennes and Kristen Scott Tomas in the 1996 film, “An English Patient.” These two silver screen protagonists are the starting point for Façonnable’s pre-fall 2012 collection.
Romantic and military references meet in a new kind of understated elegance. Sensual, functional but far from ostentatious, the women’s pre-fall lineup features standout outerwear, including a funnel neck belted dress-coat, a suede blazer and a round-shoulder belted trench. There are also key layering pieces, like cropped slouchy sweaters, paper-thin button down shirts in tie prints and minimal skirts with contrast zips. Cut from cool neutrals, like tobacco, stone and olive drab then accented with deep tones, such as chili red, sun bleached pink and gypsy blue, the collection is at once of the moment and timeless.
Delving deeper into the collection, Façonnable crafted a great assortment of wide-leg chinos, silk tops, and easy cotton dresses. Richly tanned leather ankles boots, both flat and with a modest heel, pretty ballerinas and slouch suede Gardiane boots round out the chic mix.
